Course summary:

Learn the tools and techniques to evaluate web accessibility, apply universal design principles for creating accessible online content, and understand the legal requirements for accessible websites.

With Federal Government putting the accessibility of websites under the microscope, the word on the street is that accessibility is going to be a key focus for both business and government this year. Many organisations understand that accessibility isn’t just something to do here and now, but recognise that staff need to be provided with the skills and techniques to ensure compliance into the future.

Participants will gain a solid understanding of the issues and impacts of web accessibility and what the requirements are under WCAG 2.0 and the National Transition Strategy (Canberra courses only).  They will develop an appreciation of how people with a disability interact with content online, and see some of the tools they use in action.  They will learn techniques to assess web content accessibility and address common accessibility problems.

We are really pleased to see this renewed focus on accessibility, and are very proud to be able to assist our clients to learn about the intricacies of WCAG 2.0 and accessible design.

If you, your colleagues – heck, even your boss! – need to get up to speed on what accessibility is all about, learn new skills or just keep up to date with the latest testing and accessible design techniques, we would love to see you on our next Practical Accessibility course.

Topics covered:  What is accessibility, what is a disability, accessibility myths, the legal and regulatory requirements, accessibility in action online, the guidelines (WCAG 2.0), keyboard access, colour checks, using magnifiers, using screen readers, designing for cognitive issues, creating accessible elements, testing for accessibility, and creating an accessibility action plan.
