Medicare Australia information architecture

The challenge

Medicare Australia has a broad user base and their website provides information and online services to all Australians including permanent residents and migrants. Specific user groups vary from health professionals, such as doctors and practice managers, to individuals that may use the site to access community health programs delivered by the government, amongst other reasons.

The solution

Stamford was commissioned to redesign the site's information architecture. We conducted extensive card sorting activities to ascertain how users think about the information presented on website. Issues we identified included the need to address the current labelling model and allowing for the future addition of information and transactional functionality. The solution required a scalable approach, an information architecture that suited the current online needs of Medicare clients but that was flexible enough to maintain integrity should further functionality be added.
